The Premise and Challenge

Terra Oculus means Earth Eye in Latin. My name is Terra and these images are a result of what I see in my day to day life. I started taking photos for fun. My iPhone was the camera at hand. One day my dear friend and now mentor Bill Thompson gently nudged me and suggested I do something with all these photos I am taking. This blog is the result.

The Premise and Challenge

1.    All photos must be taken with my iPhone – I want to inspire people to take images, of what they see, with whatever camera they have. You don’t have to be a professional photographer and have an expensive camera to capture your unique view on the world. Through photography we each expose how we view reality differently. So take photos, share them and have fun!

2.    I can only edit the photo on the iPhone using applications available through the App Store – Again, this rule is to in some ways limit myself and force creativity through a challenge. Most people don’t own Photoshop, nor could they afford it. But the fun and wonderful applications available for often $.99-$5.99 for the iPhone or other smartphones give you an opportunity to transform images in ways that enhance your personal expression.

3.    And I can only use ambient light from real life sources, for example, the sun, a lamp in the room, etc. – Another limitation to show what is possible without expensive equipment. A lighting kit is bread and butter for a professional photographer. Getting the right light will make or break an image. But who has time or money to pull together professional lighting unless it is your profession. Play with your camera, look at what works and why. Keep shooting!
