He was oblivious to the fact I was taking his photo. Like many people on the subway he was in his own world, closing out the strangers around him. I used slow shutter set on 1/16 of a second. Rarely leaving more than a fleeting imprint of their presence. Rattle, rattle, lurch. Sitting you can relax and tune out. Find a pole, hold on. Lean against a door and ride it out. All in their own little world, tuning out the crush of other bodies. It seems endless as I stand waiting for the next train. I wanted to capture that feeling in this shot. The man had the most beautiful way of talking with his hands. They seemed to notice I was taking images. What I most wanted to capture was the expressive way he had of talking with his hands. I played with shutter speed and timing. I finally captured this moment.
