Subway Series 5 - Stance - NY, NY

Brace yourself, you are on the train. Rattle, rattle, lurch. Sitting you can relax and tune out. Find a pole, hold on. Lean against a door and ride it out. All in their own little world, tuning out the crush of other bodies. I love to watch people move on the train, balancing with ease or stiff and uncomfortable trying to maintain their dignity in a sea of strangers.

New York is a city of black. Black clothing, worn like camouflage blends in to the asphalt, soot and grimy concrete. Whenever I see someone wearing a bright color in the monochrome mass of winterized New Yorkers I’m delighted.
Subway Series 3 - Liquid Train - NY, NY

The train flows by like liquid silver - blurring faster than the eye can see. It seems endless as I stand waiting for the next train. I wanted to capture that feeling in this shot. Slow-shutter allowed me to set just the right shutter speed to freeze that liquid feeling into this image.

This woman really struck me. Her face looked so sad yet the way she presented herself was beautiful and stood out from everyone else on the subway car. I chose to show her in black and white to highlight the wonderful textures of her hair and clothing.
